Today I learned about creating my own niche website. In order to have people actually go on the webpage, the theme must be niche and not broad. For example, I might write a page about the top 2022 songs and write reviews on it. I also learned the basics of WordPress and hiring good writers for the website. It is important to have an SSL on the website as well.
Today I finished my writing assignment. Then I started a new unit, which was online trading. I learned about the fundamentals of stocks, specifically the types of stocks. The most common type of stock is called common stock. The other type is preferred stock, which is better for growing income rather than long-term benefits. I also learned that trading occurs mostly on the NYSE and Nasdaq. There are also specific hours in which to trade. If you trade in different periods, you will end up with different results.
Today I continued learning about different remote writing opportunities. I started with ghostwriting and continued until data entry. A technical writing job at Google seemed very beneficial. I think it is most interesting to me because it involves clear and concise instructions, rather than imagination and creativity. I enjoy creativity, but I think technical writing makes it easier to write since it is so objective. I also learned about transcription jobs. I tried to sign up for one as well! I am waiting on their reply. It is flexible and I can make my own schedule to earn money. Grant writing involves a mix of both technical and creative writing in order to persuade grantmakers to provide funding. There are many writing opportunities that don't just involve writing fiction or books.
Today I learned about different types of writing jobs. The first one I learned about was magazines and journals. Then I delved into writing self-published books and published books. Literary agents are needed for most first-timers. However, most self-published authors earn a lot more from their royalties than traditionally published books. There is also a query needed to be written in order to be traditionally published. Then I read about copywriting and blogging. If I were to write a blog, it would be about music!
Today I continued on learning about video editing as a job. I learned about how to charge for my skills and experience. There should be a flat rate per day and then a different amount of time it takes for a video to be edited. I then learned how to make a video editing portfolio for clients. I moved on to learning how to make money by writing. Off the bat, I realized it would not make as much money as video editing. I will have to see if I am passionate enough to be able to write well and quickly for other people.
Today I learned more about what it takes to be a video editor. I watched and learned about the importance of audio mixing in videos, and how it can bring new perspectives and ideas into the show. I also thought it was interesting how there is a "scientific way" in editing as well. I learned about color correcting and Lut to make videos more aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I learned about the three most commonly used editing software. I watched both videos about Final Cut Pro, even the in-depth one, but decided that DaVinci Resolve was more worth it for me. Since I am a beginner at video editing, I decided I did not want to invest in Final Cut Pro just yet.
Today I learned about video editing and how to earn income from it. I learned about J and L cuts and more types of shots in film. Video editors can be free lance and under a company. They earn about $80K a year. I would love to pick up video editing as a side job.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about the jobs of data and business analysts, and the skills and requirements needed. I would have to earn a finance or political science degree and take certification tests like the CCBA and the CBAP. I learned about some skills in Excel, like pivot tables, VLookup, and HLookup. Analysts are the "middle man" between stakeholders, find new ideas and solutions for the company, and are problem solvers.
Today I worked on learning how to improve my life quality. There are many ways to guarantee productivity, such as using a kanban board or online planners like Togg. It is also essential to take breaks, don't multitask, and release stress in healthy ways. Exercise is not only good for gaining muscle mass, but improving people's happiness. Fear of failure is one of the most common obstacles people face when trying to accomplish a goal. However, failure only leads to re-destination. Mentors are also good to help guide people by offering their experiences and wisdom. Role models may be motivation too. I will take these steps and try to implement them into my lifestyle!
Today at Techie Youth, I learned about how to successfully manage a remote job. It is important to always communicate with coworkers and to manage time wisely. Although it has its perks, working remotely also has more responsibilities as well. There are plenty of resources and websites that help people work well remotely, like Zoom and Slack. Small talk is also good for connecting with coworkers. I also learned to avoid remote opportunity scams. It is important to watch out for telltale signs, like needing upfront payment or no qualifications in order to get the job. These scams can steal your money or even your identity.
Today at Techie Youth, I learned about creating a profile on LinkedIn, updating and making a resume that represents and delivers myself well, and creating a cover letter. These all help me in my own career readiness. I learned the type of picture I should use on my LinkedIn and how to describe my accomplishments on my resume. I also learned about how to present myself during an interview and what to say and what not to say. It is essential to ask questions and talk about recent achievements.
Today at Techie Youth I learned about the different remote opportunities there are and how convenient they are. Instead of working in a cubicle, "distributed working" guarantees a more diverse set of employees and more worker autonomy. Especially for someone who lives in a city as I do, where commuting is at least 50+ minutes! I found interest in transcriptionist online jobs, and want to do more research on it!
