Data Entry - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about the process of data entry and what it actually entails as a job title. Data entry is the act of transcribing some form of information into another medium, usually through input into a computer program. Some forms of data that might transcribed by these data workers include handwritten documents, sequences of numbers, computer code, and even names and addresses. Certain careers can be exclusively involved in data entry only, while certain workers, like programmers, could have to occasionally enter data while performing other forms of work. People who are good and quick typers often qualify for jobs in data entry. Most companies that hire people for this work have requirements for Keystrokes Per Minute (KPM), with a high degree of accuracy. For spreadsheets and published or printed documents, typos can result in misinformation or embarrassing errors. Becoming a data entry worker doesn't typically require a specific degree or level of education. You can gain fast and accurate typing skills through classes or other methods, such as extensive practice. You can also get certifications if you want to work in a particular field. Anyone who wishes to enter the data entry field should be careful to avoid “scam” offers, which promise work in exchange for a fee. No job will ever require you to be the ones paying them. A lot of these sites pick on people who want to work from home and often seem too good to be true.

Being a Recruiter - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about the process of recruitment for jobs and what recruiters have to do in order to find the right candidates for a job. For starters, they need to be able to write a good job description. You need professionals with the right skills, experience, and attitude to work at your growing company. You’ll want to put your company’s best foot forward and explain why your workplace is better than all the other potential suitors out there. It is almost like online dating, there has to be a balance. Writing a winning job description involves these critical steps: list the essentials, in order, help applicants visualize what it’s like to work at your company, and define what it means to succeed at your company. A job listing should consist of the job title, a summary, the responsibilities expected to be handled, things required/preferred, benefits the company offers, and a call to action. Another way to find qualified candidates besides through job listing websites is a place called LinkedIn, which makes it easy for recruiters, who usually have a Recruiter account, to search for candidates based on their work history, job title, or college. There is also the option of applicant tracking systems. ATS parse resumes submitted online and store the information in their database. The best way to rank highly in applicant tracking systems is to make sure the content of your resume closely matches the job description.

Fundraising Jobs - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about people who work in fundraising, what their jobs entail and some common pay rates. For starters, people usually don't get degrees in fundraising, because it has not been a common major that schools have offered in the past. However, this can be good because any education background you have can be useful. For example, Lynda Lysakowski, a fundraiser and now an author, worked for a bank that encouraged volunteerism, and also helped with numerous fundraising activities for her alma mater. People get into fundraising in all types of ways, like working at a non profit or through other business related relationships. So what do fundraisers do. First off, they find planned givers, who are people like attorneys, financial planners or bankers who wish to move into the nonprofit world. Many people want to leave money to their favorite causes after they die, so finding and building relationships with these types of people are important. Major gifts often are the contributors to a fundraisers salary. Fundraisers run special campaigns, which move fast and require complex coordination. An endowment campaign, for example, requires a long term commitment. Good fundraisers should also be good writers. If you can write good, you can specialize in grant writing, or development of fundraising materials from newsletters to direct mail letters to online fundraising appeals. Fundraisers also need people who can focus on social media management, which is one of the top ways to spread the message of any non profit organization.

Fundraising - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about the fundamentals of fundraising. Fundraising is the process of creating relationships with different people, companies, and organizations who could potentially want to support your mission in the future by donating money to your non-profit. The process of raising this money is long term, and building relationships is crucial, as well as having patience and determination. Having those long term relationships will better guarantee you having an ongoing support systems and funding sources. Firstly, a large majority of contributors to non-profit organizations are individuals themselves, not always large networks. Nearly 80% of the money that is donated to charities comes from individual donors, which means that the attention you should be paying more of is to them. Secondly, cold fundraising should always be your last resort, not your first option. These include donations through the internet or from mail ins. to strangers. Warm fundraising is your better option. It consists of reaching out to people your organization and staff already has a relationship with. That can include your current donors, volunteers and friends, as well as those who know your donors, volunteers and friends. You want people to actually know the goals and purpose of your non-profit, not to blindly help without engaging or telling anyone else about it. Lastly, your goal as a fundraiser should always be to build a long-term relationship between the non-profit and the donor.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about the steps towards getting hired as a web developer. Not every web developer you meet is going to be self employed. The first step is to have a good portfolio. That is going to be your foundation, because it is the proof that you know what you are doing. Anyone can just apply to a job, but the company you're trying to work at needs evidence of your skills to consider you for the placement. You can search indeed or monster jobs, any place where job postings may exist. Find a job post that you think is interesting and see what technologies they require. That can help you to direct your focus for when you are building the portfolio. You can even apply for jobs you are under-qualified for, in hopes that they might have unlisted jobs to consider you. Being able to learn quick and be willing to try new things will make them more willing to offer these positions to you, regardless of your years of experience. Add all your skills on Linkdlen and leverage your friends or past coworkers to leave you reviews. Always follow up with these applications so that they know your name and are forced to get back to you. Every company has different values, and you should write about those in your company. Even if you don't have a skill, say you are willing to learn.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about Bill Gates take on coding and its level of difficulty. With if-statements, he claimed that computers are amazing in the way that they can reliably execute those statements at an incredible speed. A computer program in his eyes is just a little bit of math, and some if statements where the decisions get made. For example, in a game of tic-tac-toe, and if statement in words could "if the opponent is about to win, block that spot". Fashion model Karlie wanted to learn how the world of technology is built. She learned how to code in her free time since the classes were not offered to her while she was ins school. Parents should encourage their kids to learn how to code or at least try it out. I, for example, was raised learning how to use scratch to code games in elementary school. Then when I got to middle school, we were moved up to learn things like HTML and Python on CodeAcademy and Replit. We would also create lego monsters and robots and code them into doing different actions. In high school, I tried a coding bootcamp at Google and expanded my knowledge even further. Although I plan on studying graphic design in college, some basic coding skills can take you so far career wise and creativity wise, and expand your opportunities for jobs and project ideas in almost any field. Programming is the language of now and the future. It is never too late to learn it.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about some web design and some of the top websites for web design that you can use when creating your own. There are hundreds of thousands of websites out there to take inspiration from. The first one is siteinsipire.com. On here, you can search for inspirations based on a certain niche, or just pick a subject. Once you do that, it will show a bunch of websites relating to that subject or niche, and you can look at the ones that catch your eye and scroll around to take inspiration. The second website is webdesign-inspiration.com. It works very similar to the first one. You are able to search by categories and find your niche. There is also a mobile/tablet button to see how the websites would look on mobile devices and tablets instead of just on desktop. This is a very important feature to keep in mind because 52% of all website traffic comes from mobile devices. People are often searching the web more on their phones than they are on desktop. The third is awwwards.com. The only difference with this one is that it is based on winners and nominees of past web design contests. Lastly, there is temeplatemonster.com, where you can buy templates themes for websites already.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about some mistakes that people make when designing their website, and how to correct or avoid them. You want to avoid visitors clicking off, and instead have something to intrigue them. A good mindset to have is to minimize the amount of brain power the visitor needs to use while on your website, in order to improve user experience. The easier you make things for them, the more successful the website will be. Minimize time and mental bandwidth. A first basic tip is that your buttons should stand out. It should be a call to action that makes them click and have their eyes be drawn to it. A mistake you want to avoid is too many call-to-actions. One or two is perfect, but three or more is too many and visitors will be less likely to click on any of the buttons at all. Another mistake is poor or overdone writing. Poor writing takes a long time to read, so the key is to simplify. You obviously understand the content you're writing at a level ten, but you should be writing at a level one to make it as easy to understand as possible. Avoid poor image choices. Some photos can be too busy or distracting, or absorb the visitors focus too much. Try to use images with some empty space, or adding a background overlay.

Web Design - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about some ways to go about web designing, how to do it and how to get clients and turn it into a career. Independent web developers need ways to get their own clients, since they are not getting them through a company. One basic step to get more traffic to your business and leverage profits when starting out is to simply reach out to friends and family. Some of the first projects you will build for others that you can put into a portfolio will be for the people that you already know. Places from law firms to butcher shops understand the importance of online presence, and good websites from good developers. Ask if they know anybody who needs a website, and expect follow ups. Another way is to meet with a local business, and network with the people at any establishment you are in. Ask for a business card and a follow up. The third option is a more unpopular option, which is to get in contact with local ad agencies, marketing/digital marketing agencies, media and etc. Also becoming an affiliate with these local businesses and agencies, because you want to join yourself with people alike. Graphic designers and other web developers can also refer you from their own connections. As you build more relationships in your industry, you will find that more work will come your way, and that you too will be able to refer clients to different people. This can go for any industry, and any business. The final option would be to have your own online presence, and post your projects on social media. Things like Pinterest, LInkdln, Instagram, Facebook all have tons of daily users that could come across your work and want to be a client of yours. Showcasing your portfolio will attracts anyone that looks at it.

WordPress - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at techie Youth I learned about the software WordPress and how some people use it to create websites. WordPress helps you to build a website or blog, and publish it online for everyone to access, or keep it private until you are ready. Softwares like this are also called Content Management Systems (CMS). It was created back in 2003 and is one of the most popular website publishing programs in the world. It homes more than 30 percent of the whole internet. It is free to use, because it is an open source software, meaning engineers work on it everyday to make it better. You can choose from themes and layouts, and tweak the text, create buttons, and widgets and plugins, or photos and videos. It's an ideal software for people looking to open a gallery or online shop, and even more. It is all online, so as long as you have internet, you can be working on your website. Back when the internet was still considered a new thing, the only way you could have made a website was knowing how to code with HTML or PHP formats. The web browser would interpret the code and produce the colors and text that forms the website. WordPress is similar, except you don't need to know how to code. It creates the code for you. Some catches of using this free site to create your website are: it could be removed or taken down at any time(if you have violated their terms of service) which means there are rules you must follow. You cannot use ads to monetize your website, and you cannot download/upload plugins to help you optimize things.

Web Developing Roles - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at techie Youth I learned about some of the different web development roles. There are frontend developers and backend developers. It depends on the size of the company you choose to work at, since typically smaller start up companies don't have the budget to higher both front and back end workers. However, no matter what company you choose to work at nowadays, you can expect to be doing a bit of both. This is a good thing, it is good for job security and expanding your skills. Having an expertise is always great of course, but having well rounded knowledge in many fields is what sets you apart. Back ends might even do a bit of design, and thankfully those skills can be learned as well. Talent comes from all the hard work that people do behind closed doors. Now, in terms of payment, typically back end developers will be paid more. Front end has a lot more competition, which drives down the pay. Your long term goal should be a full stack engineer, with the ability to do a little bit of everything. Trying to branch out gets you some work to put your hands in, and now you get some sort of network beyond your ability. Job security, team engagement, more people on your side and skill expansion.

Web Developing - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at techie Youth I learned about some of the fundamentals. when it comes to web development and creating websites. Some examples of a web browser are Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari. The most common languages are HTML, CSS and Javascript. HTML and CSS mostly have to do with appearance. HTML is like a building block for your website, it sort of lays out the structure of things. Then, CSS is what contributes to the aesthetic of the website, and makes it pretty. CSS deals with font families and types, layouts, colors, sizes, alignments, and more. JavaScript deals with the interactivity of your website. It adds logic and usability. On top of these 3 basics, you can build with HTML5, CSS3, and JS APIS. Then there are libraries, you can learn to help you manipulate the page, model it for a mobile version of the website, and have a cloud or server built. Being able to code opens up a lot of job opportunities, a development can be self taught, not just through bootcamps or college.

App Developing - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about the day in the life of an app developer, as well as some of the benefits. Jesus worked at an international company in Germany, even though he is from Venezuela. Depending on the developing he was going to be doing, he got to choose between Windows or Mac. He obviously chose Mac considering he was an iOS app developer. There is people at his company who work at the office and people at the company who work remotely from home, and at their own pace. They used zoom to meet with remote coworkers since they are international. In a day, he checks his code requests, and makes sure everything flows and is working perfectly. After he codes for a while, he can go to the gaming area or get food. When they get together to discuss, they try to improve any weaknesses that they have within their apps. They have a lot of liberty to try new things and offer up any new ideas you have, making you a more crucial part of your team. In terms of an app developers salary, it is difficult to calculate a general answer. Things that can impact their earnings are the programming language they use, their geographical location, their level of experience, and their education qualifications and other certifications. Someone with a degree might have an easier time finding employment, and someone with more experience will likely have much higher pay than an entry level employee or intern.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned about blockchains, which can be considered a chain of blocks that contain information. The purpose of blockchain is to solve the double records problem without the need for a central server, and timestamp digital documents so that it’s not possible to backdate them or temper them. Once information is stored inside a blockchain it is very difficult to change it. It is used for the secure transfer of items like money, property, contracts, etc, without requiring a third-party intermediary like a bank or government. Bitcoin is not equal to blockchains, it is simply the technology behind the bitcoin. We need blockchains more than ever now because of their resilience, time reduction, reliability, unchangeable transactions, fraud prevention, security and collaboration. Some myths about blockchains it that they will solve every issue, when in reality it is just a data base. They don't waste energy, and focus on integrity instead of confidentiality. You can use it for keeping things like your Social Security number, date of birth, and other identifying information on a public ledger, or to record real estate transactions where they can provide a more secure and accessible means of verifying and transferring ownership.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned about trading and trading options. It is easy to understand once you've got down a few key points. for starters, in an investors portfolio you will usually see several asset classes, which may consist of stocks, bonds, ETFs, and even mutual funds. An option is a contract giving the buyer the right to buy or sell the underlying asset at a specific price on or before a certain date. It is not an obligation and are another asset class. They offer advantages that trading stocks and EFTS alone will not offer you. People use options as another stream of income, to speculate with, or to hedge risk. They derive their value from an underlying asset which is why they are known as derivatives. It is a major portfolio enhancer. They do this through added income, protection, and even leverage. Three options trading strategies are setting put spreads, selling iron condors, and covered calls.

Forex - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned the difference between Cryptocurrency vs Stock Market, as well as a quite a bit about the Forex market. The main differences between Cryptocurrency vs Stock Market are the assets traded, the maturity of the market, volatility, market reach, fees and regulations. The purchase of cryptocurrency - be it coins or tokens - does not necessarily represent partial ownership of the company that issued it. Value of digital currency is subjective. Now, what is forex? Forex is the global electronic marketplace for trading international currencies and currency derivatives, or the foreign exchange market. It is the largest, most liquid market by trading volume, with no set location and has trillions of dollars trading hands everyday. The forex market is open 24 hours a day, five days a week, except for holidays. One of the most successful forex traders ever was Bill Lipschutz. I found his story interesting because he was able to turn a $12,000 inheritance into $250,000, yet one bad trading decision wiped out the entire risk capital. However, he started working for the Salomon Brothers while studying for his MBA, joined their team and was earning $300 million per year for the Salomon Brothers by 1985. Which takes us back to the risks of investing and forex. In forex, risks can be mitigated through stop-loss orders, which exit the position at a specific exchange rate. Forex markets cannot crash in their entirety, but specific currencies can crash at any time. An example would be the British pound or the US dollar being triggered by something unexpected.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned a little more about different 3d printing softwares, like Audodesk MeshMixer and Solidsworks, I would love to try out the softwares just on my own computer. I also learned about crypto some more and how to perform a security risk analysis. When investing in the stock market, practically everyones goal is to generate some sort of wealth for themselves. But with the expectation to gain, you also need to be prepared to lose. An intelligent investor conducts a security risk analysis that can affect their investments. Running this type of analysis can be the difference between big gains and losing their entire investment for a lot of people. Risk is the measurable possibility of losing the initial investment or that investment not gaining value. It is something that is measurable. There is systematic risk, which consists of political risk, country risk, environmental risk, interest risk, and market value risk. Unlike systematic risk, unsystematic risk is specific to individual security or a smaller group of securities with similar characteristics. Unsystematic risks can be mitigated by holding a diverse array of stocks within different sectors.A certain companies way of running things will be different in comparison to another, and they all hold their own unique set of risks. Researching the company can help an investor identify and anticipate its risks, and since public companies are required to disclose their risks, you can read it right on their websites.

3D Prints - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today in Techie Youth I learned about 3d prints, 3d printed products and their process a little bit. Some items that are big on the market that people with 3d printers produce include nerf gun accessories, movie grade props, shoes like flip flops, figurines and statues, cell phone cases, toys, jewelry and ornaments, architect models, earbuds, drones, cosplay clothing, and more. They call the 3D printer a mini/micro factory, perfect for starting an e-commerce business online during its prime. The cheapest things to print are the things that are one color, one piece, small and plastic. These are also usually the fastest to print, which is better for any business. Owing a 3D printer and using it is an expensive task as well. Offering customizable products in your e-commerce business can allow u to increase profits. Something to keep in mind when 3D printing products is that it is an error prone process and that it takes time. One software used for creating 3d objects is Blender, which is free, ideal for curvy blobby shapes, and also used for art and game development in certain fields. In the upper right for the 3d view, there is a compass with xyz, and they guy in the video was making a very cool 3d monkey!

Selling Art - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned about a lot of different ways that artists use to sell their artwork in order to make a living. There seem to be tons of websites and social media outlets they can use to leverage their audience, but one that stood out to me in particular was the use of Pinterest. I am not sure why it never occurred to me before that artists could use that app to sell their art, since the whole app revolves around the discovery of different aesthetics and curating it to your interests as you use it. One artist said that the app that gives her the most traffic sales is Pinterest. For starters, you can create pins for blog posts and freebies that you offer, keeping them simple and descriptive so the audience knows what they are getting themselves into before clicking. You can join group boards for people with the same interest to pin content to the same board. Once you have these done, you can use something like Tailwind to schedule pins in advanced. The 70/30 rule means your Pinterest account is more likely to push your content when you post other peoples content, not just yours. It is a good tactic to use. Optimize your account with rich pins or using a business profile. Selecting keywords will also attract a specific audience.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I turned two assignments that I realized I did but never actually handed in, so I learned that you cannot turn them in all at once at the end! Silly me. Besides that, today I learned about artists and how they sell their art online. Prior to this, I already knew that it was difficult for artists to earn income since they work for themselves, and need to know how to properly market themselves and make sure that it is your passion, not just your hobby. They have to be motivated to work on the art everyday if you want to achieve success in your art business. It takes a lot of time and effort, and you won't make money when you first start out. If you don't have the drive, the lack of money in the beginning will make you want to give up quickly. Once you are ready to sell your art, you need to know who you will be selling your art to, or your "audience". you must curate an environment for them to find you, and the best way to do that nowadays is on social media. Building an audience is the most important part in figuring out what they want from you, because they will be your future customers. The best way to build an audience is to have a niche that you focus on, that will appeal to a specific group of people. You don't want to confuse people and potentially chase them away. Having a website/homepage should have a page saying what you are about, and a page for a list of your products. You need to be trustworthy and a website will help. Setting goals and writing a business plan can help your direction and establishing a foundation.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today at Techie Youth I learned a multitude of techniques when it comes to the creation of your own personal digital assets. In order to make money off of digital goods, you need to create electronic-merchandise. One example of a place to create this type of merchandise is on Instagram. There are many ways to earn income on social media. The first way would be to promote affiliate links, which means to join high paying affiliate programs so that you can add affiliate links to your Instagram and make a commission on the sales. Another way is to sell physical and digital products, as some people use it as a shopping app. For example, I used the app to promote my jewelry business when I first started, and it helped me gain more customers. You can also publish sponsored posts, and become an influencer marketer. Becoming a brand ambassador means you promote a company in a positive light on a regular basis. Most brand ambassadors sign contracts with brands to promote their products. You can create videos and pictures, or visual content to put up for sale. You can be a virtual assistant or a social media manager/marketer, and run the social media accounts of businesses who don't have the time or the knowledge to do it properly. A lot of people who do these things have the ability to negotiate pay and/or set their own rates with customers and clients. You can write captions for businesses, make filters for instagram stories, find freelance clients for your own job, and improve business all around. Spark AR studio allows you to use homemade templates to start it if you want to try out making filters for apps like Instagram and Snapchat.

What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned about Bitcoin. When people buy bitcoin, they believe that the price will rise regardless of the ups and downs. Usually people invest in bitcoin because the believe in the ideology behind the currency. Traders view bitcoin aa an instrument for making profits short term. And investors hold for the long term, and tend to care more about the technology and the ideologies. You can make a nice profit if you properly anticipate the market. Bitcoin is unregulated which makes it easier to trade without long processes. Scalping is a day trading strategy, they try to make substantial profits on small price changes. It's based on the idea that making small profits repeatedly over time decreases your risk. Swing trading tries to take advantage of the natural swing of the price cycles. They spot the beginning of a price movement and hang on until it drops or they reach their desired result. Market Order is 100% fulfilled at any price, Limit Order is guaranteed, fulfillment isn't. Stop loss order is a timed market order for cutting losses.

Stocks - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned about about stocks and investments. For starters, a stock is is a security that represents a portion of a company that you own. When you buy a stock, you are purchasing a small(or large) part of that company, and you now own it. That is what you call a share. Companies sell stocks through their stock through a stock market exchange. For companies, issuing stock can be a means of raising money to pay off debts, launch new products, and expand their operations. Investors usually purchase stock in order to grow your money and keep up with inflation over time. Instead of keeping your savings in a savings account at a bank with a fixed interest rate, putting your money into something that increases with inflation will set you up for more financial freedom. The goal when you buy a stock is for your initial investment to increase over time, and you can increase your chances of this by spreading your money around and buying different stocks instead of just one. This is because companies can go out of business or lose value easily in this economy. So it is important to diversify. When you own common stock, you own a share in the company’s profits as well as the right to vote. In order to profit off stocks, you can put your money in and sell when a stock goes up. Some common terms are buy, sell, bid, and ask. To buy means to buy shares in a company. To sell means to get rid of shares that you own, either because you achieved your goals or you want to cut your losses. A bid is what you are willing to pay for a stock, and an ask is what sellers want from their shares.

Video Editing - What learned this at Techie Youth today!

Video Editing has always been something I highly considered making a career path for me ever since the age of nine years old. I loved making videos in my free time, but the best part about the whole process for me was the video editing process, and the creative freedom that comes with it. Being able to add funny effects and color grade, ad subtitles and music was so much fun and only allowed me to express myself through my videos even more. Now that I am going to college, I plan to take some animation and video editing courses on top of being a graphic design major. Today I learned some about the day in the life of some video editors. Editors check their schedules to see what videos are most urgent on their list to get done, and work their way down on means of importance. Clients will send clips and tell you when they need it edited and how. The classic rules of editing are as follows: craft a killer script, choose the right color combination for your video, use high-quality images, get the sound right, format your video like a pro, and then market the video. Everything should be cohesive and flow together to produce an enjoyable viewing experience for your client and their viewers.

I learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned about the logo design process, which is helpful to me as I am going to college for graphic design. To start, you get a client who is asking for a price and telling you what they want, but you shouldn't give a price until you have all of the logistics set out. You need to have the general idea of the company. Then you need images for a mood board, in order to decide if you are able to meet the clients expectations or if you are the wrong one for them. Research is also important in terms of user interaction. When you map out your initial ideas, professionals get the best ideas from their heads on to paper with pencil while you concept and brainstorm. Logos are not supposed to just be eye catching or flashy, but the functionality and how it would interact with a viewers brain. Drafting doesn't need to be perfect but that is why you use pencil before you start to use Adobe Illustrator. Once the logo is done, superimposing it onto websites and products is important for the owner to visualize everything and decide if the job is done. I also learned the process of creating a website on wix, which can be useful. I used to make websites for fun using Weebly. I will use those tips for creating a portfolio website once I get to college.

Business Startups - I learned this at Techie Youth today!

One thing I learned about today is entrepreneurship and starting business. There is risks in starting business, but a lot of money in running a successful business. There are tangible, financial and human resources that all play a role in a business. You need to know what you need and who you need to hire. I personally started a jewelry business of my own back in November of 2020, and I started with an outline of what I wanted to sell, what I would need to produce the products, and what my profit would be by the end of each sale, taking resources like metal and shipping into account. I was able to profit 15x my initial investment within the first 3 months!. However, not every business is going to see success right away. In fact, most businesses will fail, and it is in fact expected for you to fail and to learn from those mistakes. Setting realistic goals is going to set you up for a lot more success than having huge dreams and reaching for the stars. Thinking small and giving yourself time to reach smaller goals will only teach you more along the way. Businesses who reach success quickly also often lose sight of the initial goals for the company, and it is important to remain ethical and follow your morals, which setting goals can help you do. Profit is the amount of money you get to keep after all expenses for your business and yourself are paid, meaning resources and workers, as well as personal mandatory expenses. Profit = Revenue minus the cost of your business. With any profit model, it is important to know where your break-point mark is. A long-tail profit model is a model where profit continues to yield revenue long after the initial sale.

What I learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today I learned about the importance of stress management. Happiness is a choice that you can make. You cannot choose how you feel, however you can choose how you react to different events that may come up. An exercise you can try is looking in the mirror and smiling whenever you feel yourself getting agitated, and take some breaths. An emotionally intelligent person understands that different reactions have different outcomes, and that having positive reactions to everything, even negative situations, trains you to have a more positive and healthy mindset. Having zero reaction gives you the power of someone says something hurtful to you, for example. Something I learned about health and productivity is that your mental and physical health often go hand in hand. Everyone should be making it a mission to get enough rest, get active throughout the day, take time to meditate and reflect, and stay hydrated. Those are some basics steps. Some more advanced things would be trying things like going on walks, doing pilates or having a more set up workout routine. The chemicals released when you exercise are feel good chemicals that improve the mental just as much as the physical.

Money Management - I learned this at Techie Youth today!

I learned that gross pay equals the money you make and net pay equals the money you get to keep, or gross is total and net is remaining. Net is always less than gross. Necessary spending includes spending your income on things like food, water, shelter, clothes, and other bills. The money you have left after those necessary expenses is called disposable income, which you can save or spend on things that you enjoy, things that aren’t as necessary (ex, vacations, accessories). I also learned about reselling, and smart purchases versus wasteful purchases. Things like rare items, real estate, camera lenses, etc are things that restrain high resale value if maintained properly. This means you would be able to resell it for close to the price you paid for it. Wasteful purchases have a low resale value, things like new cars and furniture, new phones and most other electronics. Something good to learn early on is the importance of investing. Any extra funds should be properly invested in order to secure a comfortable future.

Remote Work and Life Balance - I learned this at Techie Youth today!

Today, I learned about a lot of options that people take for their career paths besides the typical 9 to 5 office jobs. I learned the pros of them, for example, saving commute time to do other things, like chores, spending time with family and kids, starting side hustles and learning how to make more money on the side. Another pro to remote jobs is the ability to travel and sometimes work for yourself/create your own schedule. It also requires very little in comparison, like only needing a computer and some good wifi, instead of needing a car or money to commute to an office. Some cons of remote jobs are lack of socialization, however. In an office job, and even hybrid jobs, you get to interact with other on a daily basis, which you will lack working from home. Another con is the lack of separation of work and play, as well as home vs work time. People find it easy to either over work, or to slack off when doing a work from home job. It is important to set those boundaries with yourself and others when trying to figure out if working from home is for you, because it is not for everyone. I learned the business side of having a Paypal, instead of a personal account, which I can apply to my daily life. They say to use a business Paypal for business transactions, like selling goods, or taking donations for like a non profit. I learned the importance of listing achievements, especially in numbers on resumes, as well as having a good online presence.
