I learned that to get a first developer job, you would need a portfolio. A portfolio shows proof that you know what you're doing. It is important to show that you are willing to learn new things and to not put down skills that you are not actually good in. Being honest goes a long way. Github is also great in showing the projects that you participate in and your improvements.
I learned that there are many different code languages such as JavaScript, Nodejs, PHP, Python, and Java. JavaScript is used for front-end websites and learning this will make learning other languages easier. PHP is the most popular web development language and is somewhat similar to Java. Python on the other hand is most in demand because it follows it's own unique syntax. Java is typically used internally by banks and is more challenging to learn.
I learned that databases is a place that stores all the data from a website. There are 2 database languages. One is structured Query Language (SQL) and this interface language is used to interact with most relational-databases. Non-relational databases (NoSQL)on the other hand does not universally use the same language as relational-databases (SQL), and typically there is a ground-up learning curve when moving from one NoSQL database to another.
I learned that version control is used to manage the files on a website. It maintains the history of all the changes made to a group of files so no data can ever be accidentally lost, deleted or overwritten. I learned that Subversion (SVN) and GIT are the two main version control programs that are used in almost all of the website projects that utilizes file versioning.
I learned that cryptocurrency is a digital asset that can circulate without the need for a central monetary authority such as a government or bank. People can mine bitcoin which is a energy-intensive process in which computers solve complex puzzles in order to verify the authenticity of transactions on the network, and in return, the owner is able to receive and earn crypto. Crypto prices are very volatile meaning that it can go up and down really quick thus, causing some to gain a profit and others to lose. In addition, crypto is taxed as property. This means that when you sell crypto, you'll be taxed on the gains.
I learned that to successfully create a business model, one needs to identify the audience, then define the problem, understand your offerings, document your needs, find key partners, set monetization solutions, and finally, test the model. The goal is to have a good business plan that will help you increase in profit steadily. For example, retail businesses models buy goods from manufacturers and then resells to the public at a higher cost but they also compare the costs of what their competitors are selling the goods for.
I learned that email marketing is used for branding, engagement, acquisition, retention, direct sales, reactivation, generating traffic, and getting referrals. It is used to gain customer's appreciation so that ultimately your business with grow and profit as your customers refer you to others.
I learned that stock photos are pictures taken by photographers and distributed by a stock image agency. These pictures can be accessed and used for free. There is no specific genre or topic of the photography; it can include anything. Stock photos have already have their legalities straightened out which means that we won’t run into any legal issues as compared to using a photo with no image license.
I learned that many tips in selling art online. Making a spreadsheet to track the price of the similar art pieces between different sellers is very important because we don't want to sell an art for double the amount of money compared to others. In addition, in order to be able to sell art at its highest potential, gaining a social media following is very beneficial. Posting content on social media helps expose your art which can bring in more recognition. The posts should be unique, fun, and engaging. I also learned that Esty is a good platform for beginners to start selling their art because this platform takes less fees. As your art gains more buyers and attention, moving on to shopify or squarespace where you make your own website will be rewarding.
I learned that there are different types of recruiters. They included headhunter, executive, internal, IT, legal, management, military, pharmaceutical, sales, and sports recruiter. Traditional recruiters pull candidates from a large pool and seeks candidates with diverse backgrounds for multiple fields, while niche recruiters cover only a few industries.
I learned that having a good cover letter is very important. Companies look at the quality of the cover letter to determine is the candidate put sufficient effort into writing the cover letter. For example, they look at the grammar and essential information related to the job. Cover letters should be short, concise, and grammatically flawless with keywords relating to the job ad.
I learned that hiring one exclusive recruiter is better than hiring multiple contingent recruiters. This is because one exclusive recruiter will put in more commitment and dedication in finding the best candidate for your company while multiple contingent recruiters may lose their interest and move on to their next client. Multiple contingent recruiters will seek for something they feel that will make them the most profit/results while dropping whatever they feel like won’t produce them results. Exclusive recruiters will put in their best work and they’ll be more willing to invest their time to find the best candidate.
I learned that wealth markers is different from philanthropic. For wealth markers, we look at their potential donors financial status which includes real estate ownership , stock holdings, business affiliations, and potential giving history. While for philanthropists, we look at their wealth status along with their interests. Philanthropists are more inclined to support if the goal of the fundraiser is something they have interest in or something they would likely express support on.
I learned that there are front end and backend web developer. Backend gets paid more because there are more front end developers hence supply and demand. Front end leans more towards the visual side of programming while backend focuses more on terminals and servers. In addition, there are also web designers and web developers. Web designers take care of the aesthetics of the website and its usability while web developers deal with the internal development such as producing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web application.
Today, I learned the basics of adobe photoshop to edit photos and to create web designs. I can choose what dimension I want my photo or text to be. The first step would be to create a layer and then draw a shape into the file. Then, I would need to create another layer before I write any text into the file. To edit an image, I can adjust brightness/contrast, exposure, color, blur, etc.
I learned that it is easy to get scammed by a modeling agency. I also learned that if an agency is interested in promoting one’s modeling career, the client should not need to pay for modeling school or program. This is very interesting because I thought that modelers would need to pay for their own modeling school. I read that if the agency requires that the client pay, this means that they are only interested in the money and not in their modeling career. Also, the client should not be restricted to only the company’s photographer. To have a better modeling career, one should be active on social media posting 2-3 times a day.
I learned that data entry jobs requires knowledge of operating a computer such as installing softwares, creating folders, and editing files. Another requirement is knowing the basics of Microsoft office program such as word, PowerPoint, and excel. In addition, basic online searching skills and fast typing skills are needed. If I needed a job in the future, I would definitely look into this job because it seems interesting and I have proficient skills in this type of career. I have a lot of experience browsing computers and using Microsoft office programs along with fast typing skills.
Transcribing video clips into text is one of the many opportunities to make money quickly without needing a degree. There are 3 categories of jobs for this: regular, medical, and legal where to be a medical and legal transcriptionist, one would need to earn a certificate. I learned that one of the tips in transcribing is to remove crutch words which includes words “like”, “you know”, “kind of”, “sort of” to make the transcript easier to read. Overall, this job is best suited for something who has great listening skills and can type fast.
I learned that there are ways to make quick money by doing surveys, answering polls, watching videos, and more. However, I feel like that they are not worth the time because the time needed to complete the survey in comparison to amount that I will make is very little. For example, spending 30 minutes on a survey will only make me up to about $2. My spare time can be use for a hobby I like to do or to learn something I'm interested in.
Today, I learned about web development and I find it very interesting. Being able to build websites and apps by just using code is intriguing. I learned that CSS controls the aesthetic design of any project and that the content of the websites are written thru HTML. I have learned how to beginner code texts on a website using HTML format and then using CSS to change the color of the font and background.

I learned that there are a lot of opportunities in the social media field. Using instagram, facebook, snapchat can actually produce a lot of revenue in the long run. First, we'll just need dedication and persistence to promote a successful career. In addition, some people are creative and vlogs while traveling and makes money at the same time. This is very nice as they can make money while doing what they love.

I learned that it is actually possible to save 100% of my income. It was very intriguing and interesting watching the 3 videos of how 3 different individuals saved 100% of their income. Some has extra passive income which helps offset their living expenses which others just spends their money wisely and liberally.
Time Management - What i learned at techie youth today. 7/14
I learned that it is actually impossible to multitask effectively. Multitasking slows down our productivity and ultimately can lower our IQ score down 15 points. Instead it is highly recommended to time manage our work to prevent procrastination and to maintain health habits.
Everyone has their own way of managing their money. Spending money wisely will help prevent debt and lead a more financially free life. I learned that a retirement plan 401k and always having a emergency plan readily available is recommended.
I learned that while remote jobs comes with benefits, it also comes with cons. Benefits include not needing to commute to the workplace thus saving fuel and economy while the cons include people getting work stressed/distracted and procrastinating in doing their work.
Today, I learned many tips in how to more efficiently get employed. I learned the importance of a resume and having a good linked in profile picture. I also learned how to master an interview which includes dressing professionally and being in a bright lit environment during online interviews.
Today, I learned many things. I learned about the pros and cons of remote jobs and that there are actually a lot of opportunities. I really like the idea of remote or distributed jobs as I can work from anywhere in the world and also travel at the same time and not be confined in one place.
