Publishing Books

Today I learned the process of publishing books and the pros and cons of traditional authors. One of the main steps in publishing a book is creating proposals that include your target audience, the story outline, the marketing plan, endorsements, publishing history, and past sales. Another step is to get an agent willing to introduce your work to publishing companies. The traits you need to look for in an agent are enthusiasm for your book and knowledge of the market. Once you find a publisher and release your book, you would need to promote and sponsor your work so that you attract more audiences. The pros of being a traditional author are that it is more affordable since your publisher will be handling the launching of your work, you have higher chances of having a famous brand name due to more exposure, and having access to awards that only qualify for traditional authors. Although being a traditional author is cheaper than being independent, the process of actually getting your book published is incredibly slow. Another con is that you may lose control of your creativity if your team does not agree with your work.

Paid Public Services for Students

Today I learned about a variety of jobs that students can work as and benefit from as well. These jobs require some skills but are not very picky or demanding. One of the many jobs is online tutoring, where students can earn income by teaching their juniors on particular subjects or topics of their expertise. Online tutors can make up to $10 to $40 an hour depending on the ratio from teacher to students or the intensity of the course. Another job is as a transcriptionist, where you have to listen to audio and translate it into written documents. The two primary skills required are great listening skills and an excellent understanding of the language of the given audio. General online transcriptionists usually earn $10 an hour; the wage can increase to $25 an hour if you have more experience and work in higher-quality environments.

Crowdfunding and its Different Types

Today I learned different methods of online fundraising. One of them is crowdfunding which is used mainly for small businesses because it allows more donors to donate small amounts of money. Crowdfunding benefits small businesses because it is an affordable process, improving their financial state through many donors and supporting investments in their ideas and products. Three main types of crowdfunding include equity, donation, and rewards. Equity crowdfunding attracts customers by rewarding investors willing to contribute funds towards a business with a financial stake in the company. Donation-based crowdfunding provides no financial benefits and is mainly used for charitable or nonprofit purposes. Rewards-based crowdfunding is a campaign where the fundraiser rewards donors with gifts.

Non-profit Fundraising

7/19

Today I learned different types of non-profit fundraising and how to start one. I learned that cold fundraising money is gathering funds from people unfamiliar with the cause. Successful and well-known organizations usually do this with a large supporting base, making the fundraising less genuine and more about the money than the actual cause. In contrast, warm fundraising gathers funds from people who already have close relationships with the staff. The goal is to introduce them to their fundraiser, successfully convince them to support it, and build stronger bonds with them. I learned that the first step of starting a fundraiser is gathering and identifying people who might support the cause. The second step is to communicate and build better bonds with those people. The third step is to initiate an appropriate time to ask if they feel comfortable donating or gifting. Lastly, it is to continue communicating and maintaining a relationship with the customers.

7/20 Reaching Out to your Donors

Today I learned multiple approaches to donors. One way to approach donors is to write fundraising appeals. A fundraising appeal is the first impression customers have on the goal of your fundraiser, and it will determine if they decide to support you. A way to communicate with your donors is through storytelling. I learned the importance of storytelling because stories have messages that will impact your audience, so it may convince donors to support your fundraiser. Educating your donors about your cause and why it is important is also essential. Another way of communicating is through a phone call or email. I learned many tips required for a phone call, and a few of them are presenting yourself in a professional visual, restricting background noises, speaking with emotions, and asking questions. If your donors cannot talk over the phone, you would need to resort to emailing them. I learned multiple tips on emailing donors, one of which is organizing the text in concise and descriptive paragraphs so that the email is not too compact. These ways will benefit your organization because they will gain more support and grab the public's attention.

I learned the two types of business analysts: external business analysts and internal analysts. External business analysts are usually contractors and help the organization with its issues. Once solutions are made, external business analysts leave the organization as it is the end of their contract. In contrast, internal business analysts usually stay in the organization and can work with multiple stakeholders. They can work in different departments and participate in multiple projects once at a time

Communication in Work Spaces

Today I learned the importance of communicating, listening, and storytelling. A product manager must communicate with their teams because it allows team members to get things done with the right mindset and builds a closer and more professional relationship. Listening is essential for a product manager because listening to concerns from the public and feedback from the development team will positively impact the product and reaction as it goes through multiple development stages to satisfy the public's needs. Storytelling is another essential trait for product managers because it can serve as a marketing technique by attracting customers and targeting their emotions. Storytelling also creates an emotional attachment among team members, which can benefit their work and the outcome of the product.

Product Development and Success

Today I learned the stages of product development and what it takes to determine its success. I learned that an MVP is a version of a product with enough features to test its success in a market. The main goal is to obtain feedback from the public and understand which parts they liked or had trouble with. After releasing an MVP, companies develop and release an MMR or MMP. An MMR is a version of a product with its full potential that satisfies the public. The goal is to grab the target audience's attention and open up a more supportive base. An MMP is the real version of a product with minimum features enough to fulfill the needs of a group of people. The goal is to collect feedback and to report proof of success.

Process of Product Planning

Today I learned the process of product developing and gathering data based on customers and workers to improve. I learned that a product strategy is a company's plan and vision for a product to succeed in a market. A product roadmap is a more specific process, usually after the product strategy. It is a process where developers come together to outline the product's success in the long term and discuss how their goals will be achieved. A product backlog is a list of prioritized items that define what the product should contain and provides a set of tasks the developing team needs to accomplish. After releasing a product, I learned how to gather the public's feedback efficiently.
