Today I decided to pass all the Product Manager course quizzes I didn't pass and was partially successful because I had one left but, I did complete the Product Manager Assignment. For the assignment, I wanted to add another course to Techie Youth's already abundant course. I wanted a course more in-depth about website design so, I made a course that provides various websites to learn HTML (HyperText Markup Language), CSS Cascading Style Sheets, and JS (Javascript) along with the most commonly used tags/properties that will be quizzed on at the end (content quizzed on is chosen randomly).
On days 26 and 27 I decided to work on the fundraising assignment. I had to choose one of the listed topics to make a social media campaign post about how Techie Youth can solve or improve the said issue. I decided to make a post about teenage homelessness in 2021 since that was the most recent year and, homelessness in New York City is a prominent problem and continues to be. I used Canva to make my social media post because it has various useful functions such as different fonts, provided pictures, and premade templates that are hidden behind a paid membership. I used Instagram as the social media platform for my post because it is the platform I am most used to and use the most.
There are various characteristics and qualifications needed when being a Data analyst, such as computer knowledge, problem-solving, analytical, communication, detail orientation, math, and writing skills. Though some you may need more than others they are all equally intertwined when looking at either code or a set of data. You'd think that Data analysts mainly require a computer science or math major well other majors such as finance, accounting, business administration, economics, statistics, political science or sociology go hand in hand in this field of work.
I knew there were a ton of art-selling websites such as redbubble, but I assumed you had to pay some sort of membership fee to gain the exposure the website provides in order for your art to sell. In actuality, there is no signup or membership fee, and the website is sometimes nice enough like Saatchi Art which handles the shipping, and ArtPal which not only has no cost for shipping but also a printing fee.
Selling art online can be difficult with the lack of exposure your social media or website is providing. That's where websites such as Ello and Corofloat come in, websites such as these promote the user's art to its website community and possible clients. Although you need your portfolio to be approved on Corofloat there is no membership fee and you gain exposure to top-notch innovative clients. For Ello, showcases a variety of art-driven jobs and allows users to enter competitions to earn cash and major exposure.
I completed a majority of the Writing and Fundraising content yesterday so today I planned on doing the quizzes and assignments for the Writing course. For the writing course assignment, you can either write about the cause of the program or experience with the program. So I wrote about the experience these past few weeks taking the Techie Youth course by talking about the courses and assignments I have done. For the quizzes I did today I aimed to pass all the quizzes I did not pass and all the ones in the Writing and Fundraising course.
What is SEO you may ask, well, SEO is an abbreviation for search engine optimization. SEO is used to drive traffic to a particular website. In order for your content to increase you can use keywords to find in with the search engine's algorithm. Backlinks are like referrals to your content, help people discover your content faster, and help search engines determine search rankings for websites. There is also reference content which are references to external sources and/or authoritative statements.
I didn't think people needed people to write blogs for their product or anything and pay them for it. A technique gues bloggers use when writing blogs is SEO, Search Engine Optimization, to gain traffic to your content. To promote your content you should, link past works, and relate to any potential hirers by talking about personal experiences related to the topic or item.
I didn't think people would hire or ask volunteers to help fundraise and provide exposure for their cause or a product. I think the company would promote the fundraiser or the head of the fundraiser promote their cause through social media or by sharing it online. But I guess it does make sense to ask others for help if they also support your cause, similar to protests gathering people with the same opinion.
There are a variety of ways you can fundraise something, to list a few: Crowdfunding, Social media campaigns, Celebrity/influencer fundraising, Hosting online events, Corporate giving programs, Targeted email lists, and Grants. I think one of the most impactful types of fundraising would be anything that has to do with social media such as Social media campaigns, and Celebrity/influencer fundraising if the celebrity is promoting it on a social media platform. I believe this can make a strong impact on your fundraiser because social media has become a big part of our entertainment and has one of the most exposure to a variety of ages.
Day 15 of Techie Youth - Ghostwriting
I didn't know that just typing up content for a person and getting paid for it was a real job. But in actuality, there is, it's called Ghostwriting. Ghostwriting is writing content for someone else but they have full copyright over it. Sounds simple right? Well, not entirely you need to have strong writing skills and be able to engage your audience.
Day 17 - Tinkercad, product assignment
Since I had already started rough drafting it on Day 10. Although at first, I used various shapes to make each part of the Techie Youth logo, I wanted to try a different alternative, using the scribble tool. The scribble tool always the user to freehand draw on the platform. So using my sketch using scribble I then used the shapes and erase tool to shape each part of the techie Youth logo.
Similar to Ghost Writing, Transcriptionist is another typing job. Transcriptionists' requirements are heavily reliant on typing speed, accuracy, grammar, and strong listening skills. You'd think that typing whatever a person says would sound easy but I think people tend to underestimate the speed at which we speak since it comes so naturally to us.
When I think of Data Analysts I thought they just look at data they are given and make assumptions, observations, and suggestions for the future of the company. But they also look at code. One specific code is called "R code". R code is a coding language used to analyze statistical data and is a skill that is highly recommended for the job.
I always thought that apps from the Apple app store and the Android app store shared the same apps and functionally but on the contrary, they each have different operating systems. With different operating systems you would have to adjust your app to work on a different platform. On the topic of mobile apps, with our phones being a prominent aspect of our day-to-day lives the developer and programmer job is becoming more popular; with the heavy reliance on coding/programming.
I always knew that you could sell photos and thought that stocks and memorabilia were the only options but after more researching, there are tons of ways you can sell and take pictures. A few ways you can sell your photos are selling your photos to magazine companies, stock images, pictures for a local business, selling event photos, and working with bloggers. You can also offer you your photographing and editing skills for profit.
I was curious how people read stocks with all those lines, bars, tick bars, random words, and time stamps so that's what I did today, I explored how to read stocks specifically, Bar Charts. Time intervals of 15 minutes but some charts are flexible and can be changed. You can use either or both daily and weekly charts together to help you distinguish between normal price changes. The length of the bar shows how much the stock price changed in a certain amount of time. Each bar has two horizontal dashes called twigs, one on the left and one on the right.
Today was a simple day I wanted to complete the assignment for the Crafts unit and decided to the Techie Youth logo in Tinkercad since I enjoyed creating 3D objects. I rewatched the tutorial videos and started the main shapes of the object, tomorrow I will just have to smooth things out and make sure it's proportional.
When thinking about the product you want to create or sell you want to ask yourself these questions: what do you need to make this product, how much does it cost to make this product, who does this product appeal to, and what product is popular at the moment. It would be best if you thought about these questions because you don't want to try to sell a product that no one needs or is interested in. You also don't want to exceed your budget when creating your product or your product sales won't cover your tooling and shipping fees.
Today I wanted to try using the tutorial videos on how to use Tinkercad, so I created an account and played around with the various functions. I attempted to make a sword since it sounded simple enough; using circles and different-sized triangles. But it was a lot harder than I expected it to be because you need to be very precise with your adjustments and linking each object to another or else it will not come out as imagined.
Did you know one alternative to creating 3D objects is 3D printing them after creating them on a 3d object-making website? And you'd think 3d object-making websites would cost you money to use with all those fancy functions to create your product but, that's not true! Tinkercad, Blender, Autodesk, Autocad, and Solidworks provide a hard variety of functions from lengthening and widening, blending, and smoothing, to the variety of shapes you can use and adjust to your preferences.
When you create your own project there is more to keep track of than just profit and materials. You need need to differentiate the difference between necessities you should buy 1 of rather than a bulk called tooling items. Tooling items are pretty self-explanatory but to sum it up, are items such as sewing kits, drills, or saws. While consumables are items to create the product such as paper, pencils, ink, fabric, or glue.
If you were to ask me before this course where I can do digital art, I would immediately say Adobe. But, after taking the digital art course I was introduced to various FREE digital art websites and apps that are just as good as Adobe (which you have to pay for). Some of the ones I researched today were, Inkscape, GIMP, Krita, and Paint.net.
When beginning this section of the Crafts course I thought selling on your website and a marketplace produces the same outcome, same process, and costs. But there are tons of differences from selling your product to the fees you have to pay. When selling your products on your website you are in full control of how your website looks, and functions, gathering customers (exposure), and creating the website. While selling items on a marketplace you are easily exposed to potential customers and little to no need for technological set-up.
For today I wanted to explore various remote employment websites and I was shocked to see that these websites were beneficial. They provided multiple adjustments, options, and features on what you're looking for in a job. Whether it's from a distance from your location to salary estimate. And the abundance of jobs being offered was reassuring that remote work was a reliable option.
Today I finally created my LinkedIn account, I really thought I didn't need one but after looking at the website I think I'll be needing it for my future jobs and job exposure. There are 6 key tips I learned today about a perfect LinkedIn profile. Firstly you want to use a profile picture that's clear, has no distractions like objects or people, a recent picture, you smiling, and you wearing professional clothing so no prints. You also want to put a headline that should just include your job title so it's easy to find you. For your profile summary, you want it to be short and sweet that describe your skills and problems you've solved. Your work experience should contain your job titles, when you began (day, month, and year), and a sentence summary of each job. It shouldn't be long because your resume is where you go more in-depth with each job you've had. You need recommendations from people you've worked for to show your reliability. You must have some form of contact, whether you put a phone number or email in your contact details so employers can easily contact you.
First day of Techie Youth and I can say with full certainty this program will help me on my journey to finding out what my driving force is and expose me to job careers I may not have heard of. Today was about informing of remote working and the benefits that can come along with it, such as work time flexibility, being able to work from anywhere with wifi, and the freedom to travel. But, that's not just what I learned today, I learned the fundamentals of interviews, cover letters, and resumes. You want to show engagement towards the companies by asking relevant questions and providing past experiences that can help you in the job you're trying to pursue.
